Meet our Team Leaders.
From left to right: Alyse, Grace, Sophie, and Kylie
Alyse was adopted from Chongqing, China in 1997. She grew up in Washington State and moved to the region two years ago to work with youth and join the adoptee community in Chicago. As a teacher and grad student, she enjoys writing and traveling in her free time.
Grace was adopted from Fuzhou, China in 1998. She is interested in public policy, international relations, and government. In her free time, she loves playing the ukulele, petting her dogs, and learning Mandarin.
Kylie was adopted from Nanning, China in 1997. She grew up in Iowa and moved to the Chicago area two years ago! She is a graphic designer and in her free time, she loves going to concerts and eating sushi!
Sophie was adopted from Fuzhou, China in 1996. She also has two other siblings adopted from Vietnam and India, respectively. She loves being involved in the adoptee community and is passionate about a wide range of social justice issues. Flamin hot cheetos, Frenchies, and the Jonas Brothers are among her favorite things.
Established in 2020.
Adoptees of Chicago was founded by and are run solely by volunteer adult adoptees, including our Team Leaders. We have many supporters within the Chicagoland adult adoptee community and also outside of our group. We would not be able to exist as we do without the generosity of time and resources from our various supporters. If you would like to support the continued work of Adoptees of Chicago in the adoptee community, please consider donating or volunteering for our group!
The founding members are very active in the Chinese adoptee community, but we wanted to create an adoptee community in the Chicagoland that was not specific to a particular country.
As a new group, we would love to meet young adult or teen adoptees at one of our socials! If you are interested in taking it a step further, we would love volunteers or any new ideas!
